I was on vacation with two of my best friends from school. As a vacation goal we picked the Caribbean. We took the plane and flew over. On the first day we dived in the aqua blue ocean to see the underwater world of the Caribbean. I took the equipment which I had borrowed from a friend and went into the water. At first, we saw the different colours of the corals and different kinds of fish. We even saw a big shipwreck which was an old fisher boat that sunk 30 years ago. We swam into the wreck because we expected a big treasure, but there was nothing. We swam more and more into the shipwreck. All of the sudden one of my friends hit a piece of the rusty boat so that he began bleeding at his leg. We didn’t care much about it, but we did care about when we saw a big shadow right next to my bleeding friend. Then we saw it. It was a big white shark which was bigger than the shipwreck. He had a dark grey body and big sharp teeth. Instantly he looked at my bleeding friend. He started following us into the wreck, but he struggled to get in. Unfortunately, my friend was eaten because of his bleeding leg. Everything around me turned red. Me and my other friend used our Oxygen tanks to boost us right back to the Caribbean beach.

As we got outside of the water, we were in panic. The other swimmers were in panic, too, after they had seen the red water. We ran to the beach security and we told them everything we saw. Right after we had told them, he called an old fisher who has been fishing sharks for 50 years around the islands. After the call he came with his new boat. After we had told him everything, he told us that the shipwreck which we were swimming in was his old fishing boat. When he was younger his boat was attacked by the same shark. He told us to hop in his boat and we drove to the place. When we were there, we threw his explosive barrels into the water. Accidently one of them exploded. We jumped from the boat and the shark bit the ship and got stuck. Right after he got stuck, the ship exploded…

Hey,

it’s me, Simeon. Last summer I flew to the Caribbean with my school friend Tom. We were very excited about this trip because we have never been there. Our flight was at 8 a.m. because we wanted to arrive at the island at lunch. And it worked, we arrived at the airport without problems. Then we took a taxi and drove to our apartment which was very luxurious and unpacked our suitcases. Our goal was to find a shipwreck under water. We had diving experience, but a long time has passed since our last diving trip. So we started to go snorkelling at the coast and exercised to swim under water. We also saw a moraine and bought some ice cream. On the next day we visited a school friend of my friend Tom. Her name is Rosie. Her husband Roland bought a boat and had also made a boat course. So he knew how to drive a boat and he also knew the coasts with the underwater world. During dinner, that they made for us, we talked about Tom and me wanting to find a shipwreck underwater and see new underwater inhabitants. He liked the idea and said that we could drive along the coast with his boat. He knew that there was a shipwreck but was not sure about it. We were happy about that and said yes. We planned the tour for the next day and checked the equipment. Roland also filled the tank of his boat. Then we went to sleep. On the next day we started with a breakfast from the canteen in our apartment and drove to the harbour where Roland’s boat was. Then we started driving along the coast. Rosie was also on board. Roland told us that more than 10 years ago a ship stranded at the coast because of the rocks in the water. The team could be saved but the ship had sunk down to the ground. Then we saw it! There was the shipwreck underwater covered in a lot of algae. Rosie, Tom and I put on the equipment and went into the water. The sun was very hot; however the water was pretty cold. We saw a lot of fish and even a moraine in an underwater cave. We decided that we should split up and explore the ship and the area around it. Me and my friends Tom went into the entry from the ship, but Rosie wanted to stay outside because it was very dark inside. So she swam in another direction.

Last time I saw Rosie was when we split at the shipwreck.

Now we had already dived up to the boat and took our equipment because the air in the bottles was low. We haven’t found anything special. We felt bad because Rosie was alone. Rosie was lost and her air tank was also low. She didn’t find the way back to the boat. At this moment Rosie thought she would never come back. Rosie had found an underwater cave, where she could breathe air, but she was hungry and it was very dark in there. Only a few glowing mushrooms were in there. Also, her air bottle was almost empty. She did not look at her air status because she looked at other things. But Rosie did not come to the boat and because of that we called the coast police. They came to our boat and asked us where we had seen Rosie for the last time. We told them. Then they started searching, but they didn’t find her. They started to search with a special camera which can see warm places to find Rosie. And finally they found her! A few divers brought her a new air bottle and dived with her up to our boat. Roland was very happy that Rosie was back. We gave Rosie something to eat. The coast police said that we had to be more careful and stay together. The police said goodbye and we drove back home. We said to one another that we’ll never do this again without a diver expert and a tour guide. We all laughed about this. We were very happy about the ending of this day!

“Help me, … please” What was that? I’m now in some kind of jungle. I don’t really know where exactly. Probably in the Caribbean. Someone is screaming in the middle of the jungle right now. I live in a small cave which I found in the morning two days ago. It is really uncomfortable but it’s better than nothing. I grab my spear, my stone knife and my hat. I am now going to the place where the man is screaming. The sun is going down and it starts to get dark. A silence voice is talking for the whole time. It says: “Help me, please let me go.” To check this out I’m hiding between some thick trees so that no one can see me. It is a pirate. That was my first thought. But how did he get into this? So many questions in my head, but I think about helping him the whole time. The only person I see is him, so I go to him and hold my hand in front of his mouth so that he can’t scream and cut the bonds around his arms. He is so confused but there is no time to explain anything to him. We go to the cave where I live in, and I ask him so many questions like… Who are you? Why are you here? Before he can explain it to me, I realize that he is the most wanted pirate. His crimes are enormous! First, he thanks me. I am so scared for a moment, but he doesn’t look like a bad person. Or maybe he does? Out of nowhere he asks me if I could help him to find his crew and come with him. The shock in my body has never been bigger. I say yes. I mean I have nothing to lose. When the sun goes up, we have been talking the whole night about us and the situation. We go to the beach because he said that his crew is waiting for him there. It is true. He is the big pirate White Beard! I introduce myself to his crew and he tells them that I saved him from the Kingdom which wanted to kill him. We robbed many islands together until the day where a big hurricane blew us in a cave where the stones fell and arrested us with a ship full of gold. The rest of our life we were there – trapped in cave. Before we died, we wrote a card and threw it in the ocean.

During the summer holidays I was in the Caribbean for one week with my friend Elias. One day we were at a sandy beach with blue water. The water was very warm. I took my diving stuff and jumped into the beautiful water. I saw very colourful fish. I dived to the ground. And then I saw a bottle with paper. I was very excited. I gave the bottle to Elias. He opened the bottle and we saw the treasure. In the middle of the card there was a red X. On the left side there was the beach but on the right side there was a cave. The red X was at the cave. Elias said: “The card is from your great-grandfather!”

We took the equipment which I had borrowed from a friend and we went into the water. We dived to the cave. It was very good that we had made a diving course before. In the cave there was a very small hole. We swam into the cave. The cave was in the water. In the cave there was a big shipwreck. It was beautiful! On the end of the shipwreck there was a big treasure with gold, silver, and big diamonds. We picked everything into a big box and swam out of the shipwreck.

Since our parents abandoned us, I have taken care of my little brother Juan. We live in a Township next to a jungle. We spend our days rooming the jungle and playing in it. One day we were just going about our day as usual when we found a trail of overgrown debris.

We followed it until we found some pieces of aluminium wall from a crashed plane which were completely overgrown with moss and grasses. Juan noticed it first and pointed it out: an almost fully intact plane! Some pieces of wing were missing which I assumed were the pieced we saw earlier. But except for the wings the plane was fully intact. Juan’s face lit up as he turned around and asked excitedly: “Can we go inside? Please!” And I said: “Only if you listen and are careful.” He nodded excitedly and so we began. First, we had to find a way in. I said: “Find a way in, Juan!” He ran around the plane and called me from the other side.

As soon as he saw me coming around, he began: “I found a way in but only I would fit.” – “No”, I said. “We’ll break a window if we must, but you aren’t going in alone.” He said “Fine” slightly annoyed and picked up a sharp rock next to him. We did another walk around but found nothing. So I said: “Find a window big enough for both of us and we’ll se.”

He said: “The cockpit! It has the biggest window.” I said: “Great, but how are we gonna get

there?” to which he replied: “There is a tree kind a lying next to it. We could build a ladder or try to climb it.” And so we began. We found a way up and he smashed the window. I said: “Let me go first, then I’ll catch you.” I wasn’t even settled when I saw his feet coming at me. As I set him down we turned around and saw nothing. “I hope those are the shades which are closed, not moss or other plants blocking the lights.”

I went and pushed the shades up, not all of them went up. Some were too mossy from outside or just plain stuck in the frame. When we finally saw something, we were shocked: all of the seats were straight and the tray tables pinned back. It looked like it was just ready to board which was absurd considering the plane being fully surrounded by jungle and the wheels were inside the plane or had broken off. We wandered a little more inside the plane and then went to the little room just in front of the cockpit where we found a latch which Juan, of course, opened. Underneath it was just black, so Juan took out our little locket and said: “Let me climb on your shoulders!” So I did and then there were just banging and screeching sounds which I interrupted with a “What the hell are you doing?” to which he answered: “Making light!” I put him down and said: “Try and open that door over there” and pointed to the door right next to him. He went at it, and it opened hesitantly because of the plants outside of the plane which he just hacked right through. As soon as he was ready, he kicked the door, but it didn’t move so he went again and again. Then it flew open and he almost flew out behind it. I took a big leap forward and grabbed him by the back before he fell. “Juan!” I screamed. At that moment I didn’t think he would come back home again. After I had yelled at him some more I calmed down and then he said: “Help me down there.” So I did. He immediately said: “Wow, here are so many little edges and… Ooooh there are the wheels!”, he screamed. I said: “Wait!” and came down as fast as I could. I froze for a second and then went on to look at the enormous wheels which were lying on the ground of the plane. He kicked them and said: “They are solid!” to which I nodded in false excitement.

Then he suddenly turned around and said: “Let’s go back. I’m bored but we should come back tomorrow.” – “Sure” I said as I helped him back up the hatch and out the window after I had told him he couldn’t jump out of the open door. The whole way back to our hut in the Township I wondered how a plane could get to a that remote place. I said to myself: “I have to ask the storyteller of our community about it” as he was the oldest and remembered almost everything that happened in his lifetime.
